Throughout history we have seen ambitious projects for the time to build a skatepark. We've seen some pretty crazy designs and projects (in fact, we have an article focused on them). But today we present to you the first skatepark in the world that has multiple floors.
Guy Hollaway was in charge of giving the first prototype plans for this project. You may think that it is something really strange; and it is, but if you have enough conviction and desire to do it, surely in the future we will be able to enjoy it.
Information about the first multi-story skatepark
The first thing we can give you information is that the billionaire Roger de Haan is the enthusiast who plans to bring this project to life. In collaboration with the architect Guy Hollaway, they are the two faces that are at the forefront of this skatepark. It is intended to be an indoor skatepark to replace an old structure previously used for bingo.
The main reason or motivation that inspired Hollaway to propose this project was the massification of culture in his region. The skatepark will be in Kent, England. The culture of skateboarding has been quite subdued in recent times and they want to recover that enthusiasm of its population.
In large part, it is used to stop the constant migration that is being seen in the region to other sectors of the country with a greater skater culture. This is one of the main motivators to launch the project. A good gesture on the part of both to promote values and sport, which is very little seen in recent times.
What will the multi-story skatepark have?
Although we can say that it is something new, it should also be noted that it will be a replacement for an old skatepark that exists on the same land. The idea is to use the land as much as possible to take advantage of the people who come to the site. The three-story skatepark is a proposal where many people from other countries can come to try this curious and unique skatepark. This may be one of the great attractions that ends up promoting the creation of the park.
In addition to this, the issue of capacity inside the rink will not be a big problem, the number of people who can skate in a conventional skatepark easily multiplies. Being a multi-story skatepark, there are many modules and sections where each skater can find their own to feel more comfortable. On this side, it is a more personalized experience for the user than with a bowl and several modules, which may not be adapted to his capabilities.
On the lower floor of the skatepark there will be a boxing ring, there are no further details about this yet, but it is known that it will be there. Then, there will be a bowl on the upper deck that will allow all users to reach good speeds and perform tricks in a comfortable and practical environment. If you want to go up or down floors, you can choose to go in the elevator or on the ramp if you are on the side of the daring.
One of the most striking features that this skatepark will have will be the positioning of its ramps. These will be close to windows and sectors that can be seen from the street, this to encourage people to try the facilities. This will also be a great motivator for skaters to show off their best tricks.
What modules will the multi-story skatepark have?
Like any good skatepark, it must have several modules so that the skater experience is complete. Among them we can find the following:
ramps
This is one of the almost mandatory modules in the development of a skatepark. They are a small structure that makes a ramp of considerable size so that skaters can gain speed by launching themselves down them. You can also do one or another pirouette taking advantage of the jump that you can get to take in one of them.
Tricks are also often done with the board in the air and falling back, on the edge of the ramp and much more. It is a fairly versatile module that cannot be needed in any skatepark.
Halfpipe
As expected, the halfpipe has a presence in this skatepark, it is one of the modules that is most maintained over time. Its structure is really simple, two ramps connected by a flat linedesigned for the skater to pick up speed and stabilize.
The distance and distribution of this module must be very well thought out so that the skater can take advantage of the kinetic force and, therefore; have the most speed and distance to stunt him. It is quite a physical process to get to do a halfpipe that is out of the ordinary. This structure is U-shaped, with 3 stages of the route.
Funbox
For all the skaters who enjoy dynamic modules and with a good capacity to support the best tricks, there is the funbox. A module with one or more ramps that converge on a flat surface at the top. In this way you can take advantage of the ramps, do tricks on the flat part or do a mixture of both.
It is one of the most versatile modules and one of the most widely accepted in the world of skateboarding. It can be as fundamental as a halfpipe or ramps.
skateboard lifts
This is an exclusive use of this skatepark, it is a sector of the skatepark that will have the ease of being able to use it up and down for skaters. It is not an elevator as such, but rather a rise with enough incline to make it a fun section that is not risky.
It can be one of the most fun points to go from one point to another in this elevator.
This and much more will have the first multi-story skatepark in the world, all that remains is to wait for its completion.
